    PPE
What to do: Wear protective equipment, such as goggles or safety glasses, gloves, stripping booties.
Why: To protect yourself from chemical contact.
Reason: To reduce the risk of having an adverse reaction to chemical that one has come into contact with.

    Scrape
What to do: Walk through area to be stripped with a putty knife or floor scraper.
Why: To scrape up gum, glue, tape, and/or any other substances stuck or adhered to the floor.
Reason: The individual removal of gross soil will keep the floor free of material(s) that the stripping process may not remove.

    Dust Mop
What to do: Dust mop all surfaces.
Why: To remove hair, dust, paper, wrappers, or any other substance or material scraped up in the prior procedure.
Reason: The removal of gross soil will allow for an easier strip process by removing any sharp materials from scratching the floor.

    Signs
What to do: Place wet floor signs in appropriate areas, and barrier tape where needed.
Why: To alert passers by that there is a wet floor or that there is work in progress.
Reason: To protect passers by from slip and fall incidents.

    Protect Areas
What to do: Tape off doors and edges.
Why: To prevent damage and overflow of liquids onto other surfaces.
Reason: To protect carpets and other surfaces that do not need to be stripped.

    Spray
What to do: Spray baseboard stripper to the baseboards and allow to dwell for 2 - 5 minutes. Then scrub with a white doodlebug pad.
Why: To remove any floor finish that may have been applied or splattered to the baseboards in the past. The white pad is the least aggressive, and if the finish has been applied properly in the past, with the baseboard never being finished, this whole procedure may be skipped.
Reason: The dwell time will allow the chemical to do the job and be facilitated by the white pad.

    Wipe
What to do: Damp mop the baseboards with clean fresh water.
Why: To remove the baseboard stripper and neutralize the area. Also, this is done to clean the baseboard of any debris which may be stuck on.
Reason: Residual that is left on the baseboards may fall off and contaminate the finish as it is drying.

    Mix
What to do: Mix stripper according to directions. NO MORE, NO LESS.
Why: Properly mixed chemical will work better.
Reason: Chemical that is mixed properly will react better with the environment it was intended to work with.

    Mop
What to do: Flood mop a section of the floor and let the stripper dwell approximately 8 - 10 minutes wet with no dry back.
Why: The dwell time will allow the stripper to work and emulsify the finish and sealer that is adhered to the floor.
Reason: The chemical will break down the finish and/or sealer by dwelling for the specified amount of time and reduce the amount of labor involved with the stripping process.

    Strip
What to do: Use a black stripping pad on a slow speed (175 RPM) machine to scrub the area flooded with stripper.
Why: The black pad will strip the emulsified finish off of the floor.
Reason: The black pad is aggressive and will scrape and scrub the old sealer and or finishes off of the floor.

    Walk
What to do: Walk on area that has been scrubbed with a black pad.
Why: The scrubbed surface allows for a person scrubbing the floor to have better foot traction.
Reason: To prevent slips and falls.

    Check Pad
What to do: Flip pad when clogged, or get a new pad.
Why: Pads will hold the emulsified finish thus reducing the aggressiveness of the pad.
Reason: Clean pads that aren’t clogged will allow for a more productive and thorough job in stripping the floors.

    Scrape
What to do: Use a long handled scraper to scrape the finish away from hard to reach areas and corners.
Why: To remove the finish in tough to reach areas.
Reason: To allow an even stripping of the floor.

    Pick Up
What to do: Use a wet/dry vacuum, auto scrubber or a clean wet mop.
Why: To pick up the emulsified finish on the floor.
Reason: So the emulsified finish does not re-solidify on the floor.

    Rinse
What to do: Damp mop with fresh clean water.
Why: To neutralize the floor of any stripper.
Reason: By neutralizing the floor, it allows the finish to bond securely to the floor.

    Pick Up
What to do: Use a wet/dry vacuum, auto scrubber or a clean wet mop.
Why: To pick up the clean water rinse that was applied on the floor.
Reason: So any remnants of finish/sealer will not re-solidify on the floor.

    Damp Mop
What to do: Damp mop with fresh clean water.
Why: To remove any left over footprints, cord or wheel marks that may be left behind.
Reason: The floor will be clean of any cosmetic floor marks that have been introduced after the final pickup of water.

    Clean Up
What to do: Rinse and wash all equipment. Place used pads in garbage liners.
Why: So the equipment will be clean and uncontaminated for the next use. The pads can either be rinsed out or disposed of properly.
Reason: Clean equipment represents the people that use it.

    Apply Floor Finish and/or Sealer.
